The Indians will likely be involved in two interesting deals over the course of this season. One will involve ownership. Bruce Sherman, who owns roughly one-third of the team, bought the Royals in November. Sherman’s ownership of the Indians sits in a trust but will either be sold to controlling owner Larry Dolan or someone who wants to be a minority investor. The Indians must also soon decide on what they want to do with superstar shortstop Francisco Lindor. The 26-year-old will earn $17.5 million this season and will get
a considerable raise in 2021, the last year in which he’s eligible for arbitration. By 2022, he will be looking at an eight- or 10-year contract, likely for more than $30 million per season. Dolan probably won’t pay him that much, but a new controlling owner with deeper pockets might.
