Cleveland Indians

Alright, so the Tribe overall have an OUTSTANDING defensive team… Roberto Perez and Austin Hedges make up easily the best defensive catching duo in the MLB (can’t wait to watch these guys work behind the plate), Cesar Hernandez is very solid at 2B, JRam is obviously great at 3B, and the outfield features a bunch of guys that are solid-to-very-good defensively… and as the roster currently stands, there’s one GLARING weakness defensively, and it’s one of the most important defensive positions on the field by far – and that’s Amed Rosario at shortstop…

Now there are some things to like about Amed.. he’s a toolsy former top prospect who is still just 25 years old and makes a definite impact on the field.. he’s shown some pretty great durability and had a promising 2019 (157 games, .287 AVG, .755 OPS), but he’s just bad defensively and isn’t good enough offensively to justify a full-time role at a premiere defensive position..

There have been lots of rumors swirling that Amed may be flipped before the season even starts, and I’d honestly be happy with that.. for more than a couple reasons, I’d rather the Tribe go with an Andres Giménez and Yu Chang platoon at SS rather than trot Amed out there every day.. Giménez and Chang are much better defensively and Giménez already hits righties better than Amed..

The Reds have been mentioned a ton regarding Rosario, and if the Indians can get an okay return on Amed, I’d like for them to pull the trigger.

My dream is that Amed goes to the Reds for Amir Garrett (imagine our bullpen with Amir, Clase, Wittgren, and Karinchak!), but there are some other options that would excite me as well [Aquino, Senzel (though that would include some more trade capital), Lorenzen]… you get the picture.

Would you guys feel more comfortable with Giménez/Chang at SS rather than Amed?? With some of the Tribe’s pitch-to-contact starting pitchers, I just want to feel good about the defense coming from our SS position..
